SDG&E will be hosting a FREE public talk about mitigating global warming. The talk will compare and contrast mitigation practices implemented in Norway and California. Norway has established ambitious climate goals, declaring it will be carbon neutral by 2050. The Norwegian Government has proposed cuts in greenhouse gas emissions by substantially reducing Norway’s own emissions and by paying for cuts in other countries. California is in a similar predicament trying to mitigate climate challenge by supporting renewable energy through bills such as AB 32. AB 32 requires California to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. California law also requires utilities to reach a 33% renewable portfolio standard for electricity delivered to their customers by 2020.
Featured speakers include Ambassador Wegger Chr. Strommen, Haraid Dirdal CEO & Project Director of Havgul Clean Energy AS and Michael R. Niggll President of SDG&E. The talk is at the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center on September 8, 2011 from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
