The Southeast Regional office of the U.S. Green Chamber of Commerce was officially opened on Thursday, July 14, 2011 with 250 Central Florida area business leaders in attendance to celebrate the grand opening and engage with speakers from national companies who shared their success stories of sustainability. Speakers representing AAA, Costco, Darden, Honeywell, Lockheed Martin, Skanska, Staples and Waste Management presented statistics of savings and shared plans for new initiatives for their respective organizations.
Grand opening attendees are already seeing increased business opportunities from participating in the event. One attendee was able to direct business immediately to one of our speakers. Another corporation coordinated a meeting with a speaker to learn about a technology which may provide a new business opportunity. We have also added many new members since the event.
Upcoming events being planned include a corporate headquarters tour, an Octoberfest networking social and an environmental clean-up at Wekiva Island on Sunday, October 2, 2011.
As a part of our growing presence in Central Florida, the U.S. Green Chamber is looking for members interested in becoming actively involved with committees which will develop events, educational programs and increase member benefits in the region. Committee positions are available for Member Development, Programs/Events, Education/Research and Social Media. Interested members can contact Jennifer Barrows at jennifer@usgreenchamber.com.
