The sexy rooftop terrace of the Solamar Hotel offers a swimming pool, fire pit, cabana bar and view of the Gaslamp on any occasion.
Cause for Celebration
But this evening the terrace had the special attraction of a gaggle of entrepreneurs and visionaries as the Green Chamber of San Diego County celebrated the Solamar’s participation in the California EPA Green Lodging Program as an environmentally-sustainable property.
Who Was There: As a business mixer, the Green Chamber’s events are more exciting than most, because of the bubbling combination of passion and possibility that the sustainable business sector embodies. Giving voice to this passion was special guest, Brother Ishmael Tetteh, whose group Conscious Humanity in the United States is devoted to the elimination of fear and anger and helping individuals realize their potential and uniqueness. Brother Ishmael began the Etherean Mission in Accra, Ghana.
His warm smile and embracing persona encountered an appreciative crowd, including Green Chamber CEO David Steele and its Chairman Peter Zahn, with a welcome by Hotel Solomar GM Mark Dibella. A contingent from the Surfrider Foundation, including Alan Honadle, Ken David, and Patrick Zabrocki were on hand to show their support, as well as Scott Bertone, Laura Birns, Carly Blalock, Blake Canedy, Martin Grunburg, Will Huynh, Carlette Lewis, Chuck Longanecker, Lee Millis, Kanen Petersen, Ron Pitt, Kristi Woodcock, Edie Willey, and Juergen Zierler.
The Cause: The Green Chamber of San Diego is one of the largest of its kind in the nation. Since its founding earlier this year, its members have grown to more than 200. The organization’s vision is fueled by a passion for integrating environmentally-sustainable values and practices into the local business community through mentorship, networking and collaborative marketing opportunities.
The Good-Hearted: Bringing Brother Ishmael to San Diego was made possible by Green Chamber members EcoPack Store, Shoe Metro, Tri-Net Human Relations, Greener Dawn, Empowered Energy, Skoy Enterprises, and Kimpton Hotels, whose Solamar Hotel now offers organic coffee and tea, environmentally-friendly bathroom amenities and cleaning products, a menu of organic foods, energy-efficient lighting, low-flow showers, and other green elements. Guests can get a parking discount when driving a hybrid car!
The Creative: The networking buzz warmed the chilly autumn terrace, along with the blazing fire pit and engaging product displays showcasing a variety of eco-friendly products and services. Brother Ishmael regaled the audience with stories of his encounters with American Culture, as well as his inherent appreciation of the rhythms of nature, offering a sense of possibility to a crowd of green true believers.
Get Involved: Qualify for membership in the Green Chamber by making the Green Commitment to waste reduction, energy and water conservation, and pollution prevention. Explore job opportunities at the Green Industries Career Fair on December 10. Expand your awareness with the help of Brother Ishmael’s writing.
