A Sign of the Times – Green Chamber is Launched
County-Wide Organization Helps Businesses Thrive in the Emerging Green Economy
Solana Beach, California November 3, 2009 — The Green Chamber of San Diego County is the brainchild of several San Diego County business owners and the Solana Beach Chamber of Commerce. Its main purpose is to help county businesses get a piece of the exploding green economy while doing good for the environment and community.
“We have an ambitious plan,” says business attorney and Green Chamber CEO Peter Zahn. “We want to help the County’s businesses take advantage of the countless opportunities in the expanding green business sector. The Natural Marketing Institute estimates that the market for environmentally friendly, “sustainable” products and services in the USA is $209 billion, growing to $400 billion in 2010. We have an opportunity to bring a piece of that business to San Diego County. “ The Green Chamber is positioned to serve as a platform for businesses, investors, government agencies and non profits to accelerate green commerce.
The Green Chamber was formed with assistance from the Solana Beach Chamber of Commerce (SBCC). SBCC President David Carroll adds, “We are excited to participate in the launch of a Green Chamber. Opportunities for sustainable businesses are wide open, and we believe the Green Chamber can propel both start-ups and established companies. We invite businesses that offer or would like to get involved with environmentally friendly products and services.” The two organizations have a cross-membership arrangement whereby a member of one gets free membership in the other. Besides a modest membership fee, there is an unconventional requisite for joining. Members are asked to make a scalable green commitment, or “walk the walk”, as Zahn says, by taking environmentally friendly actions in their businesses.
The Green Chamber is now open for business. Visit the organization’s website for details and membership information. www.greenchambersd.com.
