Moving San Diego to a Clean Energy Future
Join a worldwide rally to demand solutions to the climate crisis
Scientists tell us that 350 parts per million is the safe upper limit of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. Currently we are at 394 and rising rapidly. Click here to read about the effects and dramatic impacts this could have on our community, nation, and world.
About The Event
Join us for a march and rally in Balboa Park to let our elected representatives know that we need them to act now on climate change. This event will take place from 11am -1pm
RSVP/take our pledge online: www.SanDiego350.org.
Facebook event: www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=137618942991893
We’ll gather at 11 am on the east (park) side of 6th Avenue between Laurel and Juniper. At 11:30 we’ll begin marching through the park and will end up on the lawn next to the Hall of Champions (sports museum). We’ll hold a short rally with speakers and for our 350 photo.
Specific demands for the event are a mix of key local and national policies our elected representatives need to enact:
Move the region forward – ensure the 2050 San Diego Regional Transportation Plan reduces Carbon emissions to meet California goals.
Fund public transit and bicycle transpotation
Put a price on carbon emissions
Invest locally in clean energy and clean energy jobs
support the signing international treaties to bring carbon dioxide back down to 350 ppm
Check out our video!
Confirmed Speakers:
* Congressman Bob Filner
* Mayor Lesa Heebner, Solana Beach
* Marshall Saunders, President, Citizens Climate Lobby
* Bill Powers, Executive Committee member, San Diego Sierra Club
We’ll only have a real impact if there are many of us.
We’re encouraging people to come by bike (we have 2 bike rides from SDSU & Mission Bay planned so far), trolley (we’ll have selected trolleys to rally on), coaster (the #680 leaving Oceanside at 8:30 is the “official” 350 coaster).
Bring your signs and banners.
This event is in conjunction with the EarthKeepers San Diego: Interfaith Dialogue Panel discussion event that takes place 10-11 am at St. Paul’s Cathedral across the street from the park. Come to one or both events!
This event is endorsed by over 20 organizations, including Sierra Club San Diego, U.S. Green Chamber of Commerce, Greenpeace, SD County Bicycle Coalition, San Diego CoastKeeper, Surfrider San Diego Chapter, California Center for Sustainable Energy and many more (See website).
We have a pledge card we’ll be using for outreach that says to elected representatives “here’s what I’m doing to prevent climate change & you need to do your job too”.
