Environmental and Social Conditions That Make Young People Gravitate Towards Gangs
Father Gregory Boyle, founder of Homeboy Industries, has spent the last 25 years working with gang involved and at-risk youth. Through compassion and Homeboy Industries, the nation’s largest gang intervention program, Father Boyle has inspired and led young men and women away from the streets and toward rewarding opportunities and job training. He has won numerous awards for his humanitarian efforts and published a New York Times bestseller, Tattoos on the Heart: The Boundless Power of Compassion, a collection of wisdom and stories he has gathered working with youth.
On February 11, 2013, Father Boyle will be giving a lecture at Cal State San Marcos, a U.S. Green Chamber member, about his work and the environmental and social conditions that cause young people to turn to gangs. This inspiring talk is open to the public and will be followed by a book signing. Tickets are available through CSUSM Offices of Arts and Lectures.
