1. Unplug: Save electricity while you are away! Before you head out, unplug any appliance that won’t be in use while you’re gone such as computers, chargers, televisions, and microwaves. As much as 10 percent of the electricity used in your home is wasted energy burned by these types of

appliances that we leave plugged in when we’re not using them.

2. Fly Non-Stop: A significant percentage of a plane’s carbon emissions come from takeoff and landing, so we recommend flying non-stop whenever possible.

3. Reuse: If you are staying in a hotel, an easy way to conserve resources is by using hotel towels more than once before sending them out to be washed, and by requesting that your room linens not be changed every day. We don’t change our sheets every day at home, so why would we want to waste water on them when we’re on vacation?!

4. Bike: Reduce your carbon footprint and your expenses by renting a bike! Much more sustainable and affordable than renting a car, renting bikes is a fun way to explore local scenery on your next vacation. Many destinations offer bike tours as well!

5. Eat Local: Avoid products that have been shipped or flown in, as the transport of food over distances contributes to carbon emissions. Stop by the local Farmers’ Market and dine at restaurants with locally sourced ingredients. Enjoying local cuisines is a unique and important part of experiencing a different culture.
