Since 1973, the San Diego Workforce Partnership (SDWP) has helped to fund job training programs throughout San Diego County in order to provide both youth and adults with the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the workforce in fields like healthcare, information technology, and the newly emerging green industry.
“The San Diego Workforce Partnership has been actively engaged in the San Diego community [since] the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) was passed, allowing counties to have a more direct role in designing and managing employment and training programs,” said Gina Fiore, program specialist at the Workforce Partnership.
In order to participate in job training through SDWP, individuals are required to enroll at a One Stop Career Center, where a career advisor will “assess [an individual’s] skill base and needs, help navigate the variety of training options available, and determine eligibility for Workforce Investment Act resources,” explained Fiore.
Aside from the many training programs available, individuals can receive assistance with job searches and attend workshops on interview skills and resume writing.
Individuals ages 14-21 can participate in an employment readiness program, which can help them finish their education, provide them with work readiness skills, and help them in finding internships.
The Employment Development Department and the California Energy Commission has given SDWP a $2 million grant to go toward green job training, which would train almost 400 individuals throughout the county.
