Our host, Michelle Thatcher, CEO of the U.S. Green Chamber of Commerce, will speak to these experts as their tips and stories will help you unlock the sustainable consumer within. Among their ranks are Marci Zaroff and Rob Greenfield, two individuals who believe consumers have the power to make a change and lead us into a sustainable future.
Marci Zaroff, who shopethica.com claims as “the woman who literally invented eco-fashion”, is an internationally recognized “ECOlifestyle” entrepreneur, educator, innovator, and expert. By combining social justice and leadership for over 25 years, her work on ethical consumption of fashion has become instrumental in the cause for global sustainability. She is the founder of both Under the Canopy and Metawear, executive producer of “THREAD Documentary | Driving Fashion Forward” and co-founder of BeyondBrands, the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and I AM Enlightened Creations. Zaroff was also a key figure in the development of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and the first Fair Trade Textile Certification. For her numerous projects and contributions towards sustainability, Zaroff has received countless recognition— including Retail Touchpoints’ “Retail Innovator Award”, New York Moves “Power Women Award”, Fashion Group International’s “Rising Star Award”, and Natural Product Industry’s “Socially Responsible Business Award”.
Another expert who will be joining us for the online summit is Rob Greenfield, Wisconsin native and a “dude making a difference”— his words. As an adventurer, environmental activist, and humanitarian, Greenfield has created The Food Waste Fiasco, a campaign “that strives to end food waste and hunger in the U.S”. From cycling across the United States twice on a bamboo bicycle, to landing penniless in Rio, Brazil—as documented in a 2016 six-episode series called Free Ride on Discovery Channel—to demonstrate the goodness of humanity, to living off the grid in a 50 square foot home in San Diego, California and growing his own food, to downsizing his material possessions to a 111 count, Greenfield’s efforts towards sustainable practices and social change has garnered major media attention from the LA Times, Huffington Post, USA Today, TEDx and more. He also donates 100% of his media income to grassroot nonprofits, and hopes to inspire environmental change among consumers through his activism and many adventures.
