SAN DIEGO (March 31, 2010) – The Green Chamber of San Diego County invites the community of San Diego to celebrate the region’s green business revolution with the organization’s kickoff event, “Green is Everyone’s Business,” at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, on Tuesday, April 13. The evening will feature a presentation by Greg Koch, CEO of Stone Brewing Co., on his company’s sustainability efforts. It will also include networking opportunities, musical entertainment and a sampling of foods from local green restaurants, caterers and retailers.
The Green Chamber is a member organization that educates and encourages San Diego businesses to incorporate sustainable business practices into their operations. The nonprofit organization also connects businesses, investors, governmental and nonprofit organizations to help San Diego County companies pursue opportunities in the green business sector.
Guests to “Green is Everyone’s Business” will learn about green business practices that can help streamline operating costs while reducing a company’s environmental footprint, as part of Koch’s presentation. “Sustainable development has always been a core value of Stone Brewing Co.’s business philosophy and we’re excited to share our ideas and experiences with the San Diego business community,” said Koch, who is a Green Chamber member.
Stone Brewing Co. has a strong reputation for its community responsibility and environmentally responsible initiatives. The Escondido-based company uses all-natural ingredients in its beer and local, organically produced food in its restaurant and has one of the largest solar arrays in the county to help power its brewing facility in the Escondido Research & Technology Center. Recently, Stone Brewing Co. also finished installing its own waste water treatment plant to lessen its burden on the public system and plans to include a water reclamation component. This should be completed by mid-May 2010 and will reduce their sewer discharge by 60-70 percent.
“This event celebrates more than the kickoff of the Green Chamber, it celebrates the beginning of a new movement towards environmentally friendly commerce on a widespread basis throughout San Diego County—our goal is to enable even the most common businesses to take part in the green economy,” explains Peter Zahn, CEO of the Green Chamber of San Diego County. “Companies are recognizing that sustainable development is critical to their long-term growth and those businesses often require partners and vendors to develop their green initiatives. This creates huge opportunities for businesses to work together and create sustainable business models that can bring economic growth to our region.”
Registration for the event is $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Anyone who registers online before April 10 will become eligible to win a free membership to the Green Chamber.
