MISSOURI CHAPTER, COLUMBIA BRANCH
About 10 hardy souls ventured out in frigid weather for a Friday gathering that featured networking — and a 2015-2016 US Green Chamber, Missouri Chapter update.
Event attendees included Carla Hunter, an owner of The Lawn Company; University of Missouri Sustainability Director Srinivasan (Raghu) Raghavan; Vaughn Prost, CEO of Prost Builders; and Jeffrey Owens of Missouri Solar Applications.
Assembled by Columbia Branch Board Member Brittany Angle on PowerPoint and uploaded to Prezi, the update started with a preview of the U.S. Green Chamber’s exciting new logo, set to replace the one above left.
Brittany added a brief history — the U.S. Green Chamber was founded in San Diego in 2009 — then covered the present, with a map showing state chapters as they’ve come online in the past year. Your Missouri Chapter was one of the first three nationwide (behind California and Florida), followed by chapters in Iowa, Massachusetts, New York, Maine, Maryland, and New Hampshire.
The chapter additions have prompted ongoing reorganization about which national task forces collaborate every month.
The Mo Chapter added five board members and 10 member businesses in 2015. We’ve established new collaborations with the Missouri Environmental Education Association and What If? 360, a group devoted to futuristic planning and innovation.
Finally, the update features 2016 goals, which include increasing collaborations, business memberships, board members, and visibility, partly through events. The Green Chamber will exhibit at Earth Day this year, and host a first-time-for-Columbia sporting event: the First Annual Missouri Green Chamber Disc Golf Tournament.
Plans for the next networking event include a one-on-one exchange with a Columbia City Council candidate about city involvement in sustainability efforts and renewable energy. Stay Tuned!
